The 2017 Joint Annual Meeting of BES, GFÖ, NecoV and EEF on Ecology Across Borders was held in Ghent. On 15 December 2017, a Post Conference Tour was organised during which the LTER site at Gontrode was visited. The idea was to present the importance of long-term monitoring combined with dedicated experiments performed at the same site, as is done in the Aelmoeseneie forest. Prof. Kathy Steppe presented the ongoing research that the Laboratory of Plant Ecology conducts in the forest, and explained live from the forest the importance of real-time tree growth and sap flow monitoring as is done in TreeWatch.net.
